How to Set Up Expiring Checkout in SellKit

Adding a sense of urgency is one of the most effective ways to increase conversions. SellKit’s Expiring Checkout feature helps you do exactly that—by adding a countdown timer to your checkout process that encourages customers to complete their purchase before time runs out.

Whether you're promoting a time-sensitive offer or just want to move customers through the funnel faster, this feature is a simple yet powerful conversion booster.

What Is Expiring Checkout?

Expiring Checkout adds a countdown timer to your checkout step. When the timer hits zero, the checkout becomes unavailable and the user is redirected to another page—such as a reminder page, a thank-you page, or even back to the product page.

This tactic:

  • Creates FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)
  • Encourages immediate action
  • Helps convert on-the-fence visitors

How to Set Up Expiring Checkout in SellKit

Follow these steps to enable and configure Expiring Checkout:

  1. Go to SellKit → Funnels.
  2. Click Add New to create a new funnel, or edit an existing one.
  3. Add a Checkout Step, or click on an existing checkout step.
  4. In the Optimization tab, toggle on the Expire Checkout option.
  5. Set the countdown duration (e.g., 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour).
  6. Define the redirect URL or page that users will be sent to after the timer expires.

Make the Countdown Visible

Turning on the expiration logic is only half the job. To really maximize urgency, display a visual countdown timer on the page.

Here’s how:

  • Use the Countdown Timer block (Gutenberg) or widget (Elementor).
  • Sync the timer’s duration with the one set in the Checkout Step settings.
  • Place the timer prominently near the checkout button or offer details to ensure visibility.

This way, your users aren’t just told there's a deadline—they see it ticking down in real time.

Best Practices

  • Use Expiring Checkout for limited-time offers, special campaigns, or cart reservation flows.
  • Combine it with Smart Notices or Urgency Messages to reinforce the time pressure.
  • Test different time durations to see what works best for your audience.
